Thallo Pass- which connects Kumrat with Chitral
Thallo Pass is the name of a pass that connects Upper Panjkora and
Kohistan Dir (Kumrat Valley) with Chitral. The Dardic tribe has been using this
pass for centuries. Along this ancient route, you can see vast green meadows,
grazing grounds, lakes, waterfalls dropping from heights, and many large
glaciers. Some of the famous grazing grounds on this route are Ezgallo Banda,
Ghorshai Band and Shahzor Banda, while some famous lakes are Shahzor Lake, Zaigi
Chatt Lake, Thallo Lake, Kak Lake and Kool Lake. In addition, you can also see
many large glaciers with names like Thallo Glacier etc., along the way.
According to local elders, the most wildflowers are found in the
Kohistan Dir section of Kumrat. This is true because there are many colorful
flowers in the fields from Dojanga to Shahzor Band, especially around Ghorshai
Banda and Shahzor Banda. The main reason for this is that compared to the lower
regions, here, livestock reaches the end of summer, so it becomes an
opportunity for various types of wildflowers to grow into large sizes. After
the arrival of the livestock, most of the flowers become their food. However,
in remote areas, colorful flowers still bloom until severe cold burns them
down.
It is worth noting that for centuries, the Dardic tribe settled on
both sides of the pass, has been using this pass, which is 1,400 feet high and
connects both sides of the tribe. In the past, when there were attacks on Dir
Kohistan, the Thallo Pass was a way of escape for the residents.
