BADOGAI PASS
A pass is the term used to describe
the connecting point between two areas or countries. Examples include the
famous Khyber Pass, which connects Pakistan with Afghanistan, the Khunjerab
Pass that links Pakistan with China, and the Lowari Pass, connecting Dir Upper
to Chitral. In the district of Dir Upper, the Badgoi Pass serves as the
connection to Swat. Renowned for its scenic beauty, the Badgoi Pass boasts vast
meadows and enchanting gardens. Due to heavy snowfall, the pass remains closed
from November to April. For centuries, the people of Dir and Swat Kohistan have
used this pass as a pedestrian route, but now it has been developed into a jeep
track.
The Kohistani Tribes, sharing the
same language, culture, civilization, and rituals, are settled in both Dir
Kohistan and Swat Kohistan (from Madyan to Utror valley). Historians suggest
that the residents of Kalam Swat and Lamoti were once brothers who migrated to
their respective areas following an unfortunate incident. Previously, the
Kohistanis from both sides would traverse this pass on foot, but with the
construction of the road, it has become a convenient jeep track.
